Your data, in plain words
Last updated 2026-10-11
BanterReels turns an idea into a short video. To do that we need an account, the ideas and scripts you write, and the videos we make for you. This page says exactly what we collect, why, who helps us, how long we keep it and what you can ask of us. BanterReels is run by Ashutosh Bhandari (Nepal), the “controller” of your personal data. Questions: support@banterreels.com.
00The waitlist
BanterReels isn't open yet. Right now the only thing we collect is what you type into the waitlist form:
- Your email address, to send you one email when your spot opens (and, if you are one of the first 20, the founding discount). No newsletter, and we never sell or share it.
- Your first reel idea, if you write one, to learn what people want to make. It is never shown on the site.
- A one-way hash of your IP address, made with a secret key, so one network can't flood the list. We can't turn it back into your IP address.
It is stored with Supabase (our database provider), with the time you joined. The site sets no cookies and runs no advertising trackers; visits are counted without cookies (see Visit counts in 01). To be removed, write to support@banterreels.com and we delete it. The sections below describe the full product, once you are in.
01What we collect
- Account. Your email address, and if you sign in with Google your name, profile picture and Google account id. Sign-in is run by Clerk, which also records the device, browser and IP address of each sign-in to keep accounts safe.
- What you make. Your ideas, the scripts written for you and any lines you edit or paste, the cast, place, mood and voices you pick, the voice recordings and videos we generate, and their titles.
- Welcome answers. If you answer the welcome questions (who you are, what the reels are for, your topic and audience, where you heard about us), we keep your answers to tailor your scripts. You can change them any time, and they are deleted with your account.
- Avatar photos. If you make an avatar from a photo, the photo is sent once to Anthropic's API, which describes your look (hair, skin tone, glasses, clothes). We keep only the drawn character, never the photo: it isn't stored on our servers or in our logs. You can delete your avatar any time.
- Links you paste (explainer videos only). We open those public web pages and take screenshots of them to show in your video.
- Credits and payments. Your plan, credits and what each video cost in credits. Payments are taken by Paddle, the merchant of record (see 04): we receive whether a payment succeeded, the plan, the country and the email used, never your card number.
- Visit counts. We count visits to the site with DataFast, without cookies: which pages are viewed, the site you came from, and your country, browser and type of device. To tell visits apart it uses an identifier made from your IP address and browser that is scrambled with a key that changes every day, so you can't be followed from one day to the next; we never see your IP address. No advertising, and nothing is sold.
- Usage and safety records. When each job ran, how long it took, what it cost us, and whether our automatic checks blocked an idea or a script. Our own servers don't keep a log of IP addresses.
We don't use advertising trackers or analytics cookies, we don't sell or share your data for advertising, and we don't ask for your voice or anything about your health, beliefs or other sensitive matters. A photo is only used if you choose to make an avatar from one (above).
02Why we use it
- To provide BanterReels: write scripts, voice them, make and store your videos, and show you your reels. (Legal basis in the EU / UK: performing our contract with you.)
- To keep it safe: automatic checks on ideas and scripts before a video is made, limits that stop abuse, and fraud prevention. (Our legitimate interest in a safe service.)
- To bill you and keep accounting records. (Contract and legal obligation.)
- To answer you when you write to us, and to tell you about changes to the service or these terms.
We don't use your ideas, scripts or videos to train AI models, and we don't let the companies below do so.
03AI and automatic decisions
Scripts, shot plans and safety checks are written by AI models (Anthropic's Claude models, through Anthropic's API). Your idea and script text are sent to them for that, and a photo only if you make an avatar from one; nothing else about you. An automatic check may refuse an idea or a script; if you think it got it wrong, write to support@banterreels.com and a person will look. Every video is marked as AI-generated in its file, and free videos carry the BanterReels mark.
04Who helps us run BanterReels
These companies process data for us, only to provide their part of the service:
- Supabase and Vercel (USA): the waitlist's database, and the servers that show this website.
- Clerk (USA): sign-in and accounts.
- DataFast: counting visits to the website, without cookies (see 01).
- Paddle (UK): checkout, payments, invoices, sales tax and VAT, as the merchant of record. Their own privacy policy covers the payment details you give them.
- Anthropic (USA): the AI models that write scripts, plan shots and check content.
- OpenRouter (USA): an alternative route to the same AI models, used only if we switch to it.
- ElevenLabs (USA): the voices that read your scripts aloud.
- Microsoft Azure: the servers that run BanterReels, store your files and their backups, and make videos when the graphics servers are busy.
- RunPod (USA): graphics servers that make the videos. They get the script, voices and pictures of one video while it is made; our software there deletes them when the video is done.
- Vercel (USA): hosts this website.
Each of them keeps what it processes only as its own terms allow (for example for abuse checks or billing). Some of them are outside your country, including in the USA. Where the law requires it (for example for people in the EU, EEA or UK) the transfer is covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
05How long we keep it
- Your account, scripts, voices and videos: as long as you have the account. Deleting a video removes its file.
- When you delete your account, its scripts, voice recordings and videos are deleted within a day, and from our backups within 14 days. We keep a record that a job happened and what it cost us, without its content, so limits and accounts stay correct.
- Your avatars: the drawn character only, until you delete it or your account. The photo is never kept.
- Payment and tax records: as long as tax law requires, kept by Paddle.
06Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. You can delete your account yourself: open the account menu in the app, then Manage account, then Delete account. For anything else write to support@banterreels.com from the email of your account; we answer within 30 days.
If you are in the EU, EEA or UK you can also complain to your data protection authority. If you live in California, you have the rights of the CCPA / CPRA: to know, delete and correct, and not to be discriminated against for using them. We don't sell or share personal information as those laws define it.
07Cookies and storage
Only what the service needs: Clerk's cookies that keep you signed in, and your browser's storage for your theme and the Studio draft you are working on. No advertising or analytics cookies, so there is nothing to opt out of.
08Children
BanterReels is not for anyone under 13 (or the minimum age for online services where you live, if that is higher). If you believe a child has an account, write to us and we will delete it.
09Security
Every request is checked against your sign-in; nobody else can open your scripts or videos, and video links expire within two hours. Connections are encrypted (HTTPS). No system is perfect: if something goes wrong that affects your data, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
10Changes and contact
When this policy changes we update the date above, and for important changes we tell you by email or in the app first. Contact: Ashutosh Bhandari, support@banterreels.com. See also the Terms.
